Indian operators resist spectrum re-allocation

India’s telecom operators have remained unflinching in their objection to the government’s proposals to take back spectrum in the 900MHz band, replacing it with 1800MHz wavelengths.

www.WirelessFederation.com/news: With 55.9 million customers, India’s Idea Cellular became the country’s third largest GSM operator, overtaking state-controlled BSNL which had 55.2 million subscribers based on the November figures.
After adding 2.8 million new customers, Bharti Airtel reclaimed the top spot of fastest growing operator. 2.78 million new customers were added by Vodafone.

Tata Comm profit slides 68%

The recession has hit global capacity and managed services provider Tata Communications, with quarterly net profit sinking 68% on much lower demand.
